Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- Madison City Councilwoman Maura Wroblewski is swimming 15 miles this month to fundraise for the Wounded Warrior Project. With this challenge, Wroblewski has set a goal to raise $2000. - The Madison County Commission has approved phase two of the Clift Farms development. This will add four new plots for new businesses and restaurants to move in. The county is looking at ways to ease the traffic that is already building up, including expanding Wall Triana. (WAFF)
- John Hollingsworth, a former Huntsville Police Department officer and Alabama Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Administration Coordinator at the Alabama National Alliance on Mental Illness, has been recognized by the CIT with an international award. He was named the Michael Woody/ Michele Saunders Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator of the Year. (WAFF)
- At Dale Strong’s annual State of the County Address, he announced that Madison County will be building a new courthouse to replace the courthouse built in 1964. The current courthouse doesn't have hot water and needed major renovations that wouldn’t be cost effective. - Huntsville Restaurant Week starts next Friday, August 12 and will run through August 21. The entire month of August, however, will have events to celebrate what has turned into Culinary Month! One highlight will be that Restaurant Week will be a qualifying event that will send one local chef with their team to compete in the World Food Championship. (Theredstonerocket)
