Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- The city is looking for feedback on Huntsville Transit operations to look at improvements and future expansions. They have three public meetings scheduled on September 13 and two more on September 14 to allow a platform to share feedback. There’s an online survey you can fill out if you can’t make the meetings. (WZDX)
- The judge presiding over former Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely’s trial was confirmed to have an expired license to practice law. According to the Bar Association, Judge Baschab received a letter in January 2021 saying she did not have to be a member of the bar as a sitting judge. The bar does not know why she received the letter, but believe she was acting in good faith during the trial by continuing to practice. Her license has since been renewed, but Blakely’s team is looking into possible courses of action. (WAFF)
- Redstone Arsenal Lt. General Flem B. “Donnie” Walker is officially going to retire at the end of this week after 35 years of service to the military. There will be a ceremony Thursday to celebrate Lt. General Walker’s retirement. (WHNT News 19)
- Construction has started on the multi-million dollar multi-use space moving into Five Points! The Stella, an apartment and retail space building, will have 351 apartments above 3,500 square feet of retail and dining space. They expect to be ready to move in Spring 2024. (WAFF)
- Fourteen Drake State students have been chosen to participate in the Connecting Students with Industry Advanced Industrial Maintenance Program. Five companies chose the students that will work for them while they pursue a two-year degree! (WZDX)
