Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:
- A spokesperson for the City of Huntsville said that the cost of the report from the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council was $655,893. The report took 10 months including the inquiry and is 248 pages long. It made recommendations on how to move forward as a community and for the police to be more transparent and better trained in the future. (AL.com)
- A new historic marker was unveiled in downtown Huntsville on Friday. The marker is at the new Redstone Federal Credit Union location, and is there to bring attention to the fact that the space belonged to Huntsville's second oldest African-American congregation before the church sold it to the credit union. - The Alabama Department of Transportation has opened bids for phase two of their Rebuild Alabama project. The goal of this phase of the project is to widen Alabama 304/ Huntsville-Brownsferry Road. (Yahoo)
- Mayor Bowling of Decatur has proposed a program to hire an independent contractor for four employees to pick up trash all year, and begin to mow and trim along the Beltline Road Southwest and U.S. 31. (Yahoo)
- The Huntsville City Council has chosen the five candidates for the District Four School Board seat. Six candidates applied, but one did not meet the requirements. The five candidates are: Phillip Cagle, Heather Morris, Michelle Omenski, Michael Polemeni, and Ryan Renaud. The candidates will be interviewed at public meetings on June 4 and June 7. (WAFF)
