Happy Mother's Day Weekend, Huntsville! Let's catch up on what's going on in Huntsville to start the weekend off right. In today's Daily, we'll look at the verdict in the trial of Officer William Darby, what the Cook Museum is doing for Mother's Day, and what fun business idea Innerspace Brewing Company has come up with.

Here are the top five stories in Huntsville this weekend:

  1. A jury found Officer William Ben Darby guilty of killing Jeffrey Parker on April 3, 2018. He was ordered to be taken to jail and his bond was set at $100,000 by Madison County Circuit Judge Donna Pate. The verdict has been questioned by Mayor Battle and the Mark McMurray.(WVTM)
  2. The Trash Pandas have started a multi-year partnership with WAAY-31 to show every home game, led by Josh Caray. WAAY-31 has started a new channel, This TV, where all 60 of the team’s home games will be shown. (WAAY)
  3. There is currently a blood shortage in North Alabama. Jonah Karp said LifeSouth saw a dip in donations when they stopped doing antibody testing after April 18. In an effort to raise numbers, LifeSouth is offering a $10 gift card along with a t-shirt with donations through Monday for a Mother’s Day special. (WZDX)
  4. Huntsville City Schools District 4 Representative Walker McGinnis has announced that he will be stepping down at the end of May. He has served the district for almost 50 years from being a teacher to a board representative. McGinnis’s term is set to end next year, so the Huntsville City Council will name a replacement to fill the rest of his term. (Huntsville City Schools)
  5. The Greater Huntsville Humane Society is looking for volunteer drivers to transport animals to shelters in Iowa and Maryland where there is more demand for adoptable animals. The shelter would provide volunteers with food, lodging, and other necessities they would need to transport the animals. (WHNT)
