Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:

  1. ACT scores in Morgan County (except for math), Lawrence County, and Limestone County have declined in the benchmark scores. The only school system to show improvement in this area is Hartselle City Schools. This data is compiled from 2015-2020 by the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama. (Yahoo)
  2. Sparkman Middle School has been recognized as Alabama’s first Model Professional Learning Community at Work. They join only two other schools in the state to be selected as a PLC school. (WHNT)
  3. Huntsville City Councilmembers Frances Akridge and Bill Klinghas asked the City Administrator to present a written plan to the Council at a public forum. The plan would be from the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council and be a written plan to spell out what was talked about at the April 28 meeting and go through recommendations for the police department. (WHNT)
  4. Julie Kink of Madison has been working to connect the families of veterans lost in the Vietnam War with someone that trained or flew with that family member. 5. Huntsville has unveiled plans to update the Joe Davis Stadium, which used to be the home of the Huntsville Stars Minor League Baseball team. The city plans to make the stadium useful for turf sports, such as high school football games, but they also hope it can be the home to a professional soccer team in the future. (ALDailyNews)
