Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Huntsville City Schools is losing teachers mid-year at a much higher rate than normal. The reason is debated, however. According to a representative of the school board, it is because teachers are being disrespected by the students, but the Desegregation Advisory Committee (DAC) is concerned that it might have to do with the disproportionate discipline of black students. The DAC will be hosting a meeting November 8. (WHNT)
  2. The Community Free Dental Clinic in South Huntsville needs help to continue providing free dental care to qualifying Huntsville residents. Many people don’t even know the office exists, so getting donations isn’t easy. They offer cleanings for $25 and small donations for other dental work to help prevent issues from becoming more extensive. (WZDX)
  3. Madison County got good reports for COVID-19! The county’s rate of positivity is 4.8% and hospitalizations are down significantly! (WHNT)
  4. Fred Sloss has announced his candidacy for Limestone County Sheriff, and will be on the ballot in May! Sloss served in the US Navy before joining the Sheriff’s Office and serving the community in multiple positions. (quadcitiesdaily.com)
  5. The John Hunt Skatepark plans have been revealed! Team Pain blended design elements from the old skatepark with modern ideas that will make the park more challenging. (WZDX)
