Lawsuit against UAH + Zierdt Road Update

Happy Wednesday, Huntsville! In today's Daily, we're going to look at Huntsville's latest rankings on the U.S. News and World Report, a lawsuit against UAH, and big news on the Zierdt Road construction project!

  1. Huntsville has been named the third best place to live in the country in a ranked list put out by the U.S. News and World Report. The report looked at large metropolitan areas. Huntsville was also ranked first in the top most affordable places to live in the country. (AL.com)
  2. Attorneys for Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative nonprofit group, has filed a lawsuit in Madison against UAH. The lawsuit concerns the school’s policy that they believe violates Alabama’s FORUM Act of 2019 that requires college campuses to adopt policies that protest free speech, because speakers have to submit an application. The group filed a similar lawsuit against the University of Alabama in May. (AL.com)
  3. Thursday and Friday, Blue Origin is hosting interviews to fill 80 positions. They are looking for skilled machinists and welders. (WHNT)
  4. The City of Huntsville has announced that the Zierdt Road project could be finished soon along with Martin Road. There was a town hall hosted for District 5. The group predicted that Zierdt Road would be completed in the fall if the weather allows, and Martin Road is expected to be completed by spring 2022. (WHNT)
  5. Dr. Emil Jovanov at UAH has started a tradition in his home country of Serbia where he gives a book to the top students in math and physics in some of the local elementary schools. He signs and inscribes the books and lets the school decide who should be the recipients. (Patch)
