Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Huntsville City Schools is in the process of renaming Lee High School, and took a big step at last night’s board meeting. The board authorized their lawyer to contact the Attorney General’s office to get their opinion and ensure they don’t violate the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act. (WAAY)
  2. The Huntsville Times is mourning the loss of Joe Duncan, 81, a longtime editor. Duncan worked as the editor for over 40 years before he retired in 2009. He was a well-respected member of the Huntsville journalism community and will definitely be missed. (AL.com)
  3. Huntsville Hospital is now hiring nursing students to help RNs take care of patients. The Student Nurse Aide Program is already hiring students that have completed at least one semester of nursing school to give them the chance to get hands-on experience while being paid! (WAFF)
  4. Breeze Airways has suspended two of their three routes through Huntsville after only a few months. They have done the same in other areas and have removed some routes while others are listed as “seasonal.” New Orleans was listed as a suspended route partially due to the hurricane. (WAAY)
  5. The Madison County Redistricting Committee met Monday to approve the proposed lines. Within thirty minutes, all three maps were approved and will now go to the County Commission November 15. (The Jackson Sun)
