Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

• After 94 years of being a Huntsville staple, Lewter Hardware Company is closing for good. With Donnie Lewter’s unexpected passing back in July, the “only way going forward is for Lewter Hardware to close our doors,” according to the sign on the door. They will officially be closing October 8. (WAAY)
• Road closures for “OctobeeZrfest” will start at noon today and end at 6 p.m. tomorrow. North Side Square will close from Jefferson Street down to the intersection of Randolph Avenue and Green Street and East Square will close at Eustis Avenue. (WAFF)
• Slim Chickens is opening a location on Memorial Parkway on August 15! This will be the third Madison County location, but the first in Huntsville. (WAAY)
• VFW Post 2702 has opened their annual Madison County youth scholarship contest. Madison County School System students and homeschooled students in the district are eligible to participate and can get applications from their school (MCS students) or applications can be submitted directly to the VFW Post 2702 location. (WAAY)
