Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Some parents spent last night protesting Huntsville City Schools deciding to require masks. School starts back today, and some are considering the schools requiring masks to be targeting freedom. (WZDX)
  2. Numbers are low for Madison County’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program. If you aren’t sure if this will be able to help you, check it out and make sure to take advantage of this if you can. (WAFF)
  3. Academy Sports + Outdoors and Tyler Mann Injury Law have made a $6,000 donation in shoes to kids in need through HEALS, Inc. Their goal is to make sure local kids have shoes that fit their growing feet. (WHNT)
  4. Mayor Battle has announced that the City of Huntsville will be resuming COVID-19 briefings. These weekly updates will be used to help inform the city on what is happening with the new spike from the Delta variant. (WHNT)
  5. UAH has announced that Dr. Mae Jemison, the first woman of color in space, will be the keynote speaker for leadership. Dr. Jemison will be on campus to speak August 15 at 2 p.m. during Week of Welcome. (Patch)
