Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Space Command’s Gen. James Dickenson admitted to a congressional committee that the Arsenal would need to recreate facilities and a communication system if headquarters moved. This would possibly cost more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars and the current headquarters in Colorado already has all of this and would not need upgrades. (Star-Telegram)
  2. We all wanted Panoply to happen this year in some capacity, but local artists depended on it. The event allows them to grow their businesses and interact with new clients. The pandemic has caused many artists to have to sell their art online or work with local businesses to try and get their pieces seen. Panoply allowed many of them to finally be face-to-face and start to get their businesses back on track. (WZDX)
  3. Axxeum Aviation Operations held a helicopter fire and rescue demonstration at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro. The goal was to show how quickly the helicopter could respond and help other agencies with rescues and emergencies. (WAFF)
  4. Huntsville citizens have had time to react to the report from the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council, and some that were in attendance are still uneasy about the turnout. According to reporter Alexis Scott, some people have an issue with the report only being recommendations with no accountability for the police departments involved in last summer’s BLM protests. (WAAYTV)
  5. Andy Blalock, a middle school teacher in Huntsville, has entered the race for Mo Brooks’ Alabama District 5 seat in Congress. He is running as a moderate Republican and he will be the first openly gay man to hold the District 5 seat if he wins. (WHNT)
