Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. City Councilman Bill Kling is looking at the potential of extending red lights in the city so that both sides are briefly red at the same time. The goal is to avoid running red lights. However, Councilwoman Frances Akridge looked into this during her red light camera resolution and says there is a potential that it would cause more red light running from people not willing to wait. (WAAY)
  2. Two new democratic candidates have announced their candidacy for separate State House districts. Mallory Hagen is running for District 25, Mac McCutcheon’s seat. Marilyn Lands has qualified to run for District 10, Mike Ball’s seat. Neither incumbent is running for reelection. (WHNT)
  3. Still Serving Veterans is celebrating 16 years! The organization has been able to help thousands of people and even adapt to the challenges brought about by COVID. (WZDX)
  4. City Council has approved entering into an agreement that would allow police to be able to access Flock Safety cameras during investigations. They will only have this access under specific conditions and the cameras will not be monitored. (WAAY)
  5. Apollo 16 is being deep cleaned ahead of its 50th anniversary in April. COVID interrupted the craft’s regular cleaning schedule, so the refresher was much needed. (Huntsville Patch)
