Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- Oakwood Academy has filed a lawsuit against the AHSAA after the team forfeited a playoff game due to religious conflicts. They previously signed agreements to play all playoff games without petition or forfeit when they joined the AHSAA, who foresaw this issue. The lawsuit asks for damages, but seeks to force the AHSAA to accept schedule changes in postseason games due to religion in the future. (AL.com)
- A group of North Alabama bikers and social clubs took a trip to the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. They donated tons of stuffed animals to keep the kids company when their parents can’t be there. The biker unit requested that if you’re in need of community service, you reach out to them. (WHNT)
- Councilman Kling is making sure the sidewalks downtown get an upgrade. Thanks to a motion by Councilwoman Akridge, the budget is 2.5 times higher than expected, which will allow for leveling and for brick walkways to be redone along with basic repairs. (WZDX)
- Ryan Renaud is running for his first full term on the Huntsville City School Board. He was appointed last June to replace Walker McGinnis, who left due to health issues. (WHNT News 19)
- Three Athens High School students, one sophomore and two seniors, competed in KinderVision’s “The Great Save” Teen Public Service Announcement competition. They did an abduction awareness video called “Stay Alert, Stay Safe” that will now compete at the national level. (News Courier)
