Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The AHSAA denied Oakwood Adventist Academy High School’s request to move their playoff game that was set to take place over the weekend. The team’s Sweet 16 playoff game was scheduled during observation of the Sabbath, so the team got approval from their competitors and two other teams to switch the two game times so that the Oakwood students would be able to play. The AHSAA has only said that scheduled games have to be played at their set times. (Oakwood Adventist Academy, WAFF)
  2. The Heart of the Valley YMCA has started an eSports program for ages 8-12. Currently, you must play at home on your own equipment, but you don’t have to be a member of the YMCA to participate. (WAFF)
  3. HudsonAlpha has announced a new president! Dr. Neil Lamb will be stepping up from Vice President of Educational Outreach. (WHNT)
  4. Priceville’s first drive-thru coffee shop has opened! Mayor Heflin was told three businesses people wanted when he was elected, and a coffee shop was on that list, so the city is proud to have this open. (WHNT)
  5. Reagan Atkins, an Austin High School student in Decatur, is the 20220 Alabama Affiliate Winner of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing. Congrats Reagan! (Decatur City Schools)
