Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. A portion of Old Monrovia Road from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. today. During that time, drivers will be unable to cross over Jeff Road from Capshaw Road. The suggested detour during the work is Bishop Road. (WAFF)
  2. The Huntsville Police Department has suggested an alternate route to avoid Morris school zone traffic. If you currently use 565 East to Exit 15, they recommend going up to 17A toward Jordan Lane instead to save a few minutes. (WZDX)
  3. UAH has announced a $1 million pledge to create the Dr. Ashok K. Singhal Endowed Chair in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, which will be the first non-corporate sponsored Chair in the College of Engineering (COE), if approved. It will become one of the highest accolades for a faculty member in the COE to receive. (AL.com)
  4. Serena Williams has been announced as the special guest at the Fuel Her Fire Sneaker Gala with the Girls Incorporated of Huntsville! This year’s event will be at the Von Braun Center on October 27. Tickets will go on sale soon for individuals. (City of Huntsville, Alabama - Government via Facebook)
  5. The Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama will be hosting free drivers education courses! The Huntsville class will start September 6 and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and the Athens class will begin September 12 and will run on Mondays and Wednesdays. (WZDX)
