Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. The contractor for the Recycling Alliance of North Alabama, RANA, has declared bankruptcy. Red River Waste Solutions was contracting for RANA, but has been bought out by Platform Capital, LLC, who have decided to hire new mechanics and drivers and will be releasing a recovery plan soon. (WAFF)
  2. The Huntsville Police Department is now fully staffed with mental health professionals. These "citizen correspondents" will go on mental health crisis calls with HPD officers. On top of that, all HPD officers have received training. (WHNT News 19)
  3. The lawsuit regarding the new "luxury housing" development on Monte Sano has been dismissed by the judge. The suit said that the proposed development would violate city zoning and traffic ordinances. (WHNT News 19)
  4. The new Huntsville police officer pay raise takes effect this week. This increase makes Huntsville the leader for the region and will make them able to hire competitively. (WAAY)
