Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- ShowerUp Huntsville, a non-profit organization providing mobile hygiene services to the community, is asking for donations of towels, washcloths, and other shower essentials such as soap, shampoo, and toothbrushes. The organization's mobile hygiene station is usually set up from Monday to Friday at The Livin' Room Community Center, where they accept donations and provide showers from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They also hold events at other locations, such as churches and food distribution centers, on weekends. ShowerUp believes that everyone deserves a shower, and their goal is to make people feel human again through the simple act of taking a hot shower. (WHNT News 19)
- The Huntsville Botanical Garden in Alabama is hosting butterfly releases this summer at the Purdy Butterfly House, with the first two scheduled for tomorrow, May 13, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Visitors of all ages can participate in the magical experience of safely releasing live butterflies into the indoor habitat after a brief presentation about the insects and their habitat. The program lasts approximately 30 minutes and requires registration, with limited space available at a cost of $8 per person in addition to Garden admission for non-members. - A 6-foot alligator was spotted in a busy area of Madison County off Zierdt Road, causing concern for residents. Police and wildlife officials were called in to safely secure and remove the reptile which was laying in front of the brick sign for the Mountain Brook subdivision. Officials remind residents that it is alligator breeding season and to avoid feeding or approaching them to prevent human habituation. (AL.com)

- Attention commuters: Downtown access to I-565 will be blocked due to a Huntsville city project on Monday, May 15. Washington Street is expected to close from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., while Jefferson Street will close from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. (WHNT News 19)
- Tomorrow, May 13, MidCity District and Orion Amphitheater will host the second annual Camp to Amp Festival from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The free event will feature live musical performances, vendors, dining, and shopping. (themadisonrecord.com)
