Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. SideTracks Music Hall is officially closing. Rumors caused them to confirm on their Facebook page. Details have not been worked out, but many shows scheduled at SideTracks have been scheduled for other venues in the area. (AL.com)
  2. School systems in Madison County seem to have more schools than they have school resource officers (SROs). Huntsville City Schools has 43 schools (some with the same address) and only 25 SROs, along with 70 campus security officers. Madison County Schools has 18 SROs for their 29 schools. Madison City Schools did not comment to WHNT’s article as of writing. (WHNT News 19)
  3. Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo announced yesterday that William Shatner will be a special guest at next year’s con! Shatner is most known for playing Captain Kirk on “Star Trek,” but he has played numerous roles throughout Hollywood. Next year’s event will be at the VBC South Hall April 21-23. (AL.com)
  4. The City Of Huntsville is teaming up with Downtown Huntsville, Inc. to celebrate being named the Best Place to Live in the U.S. with a party! On Thursday, August 25, you can join in on North Side Square from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. free of charge for the party! (Patch Press Release Desk)
  5. The city hosted a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday to celebrate the new development at “Councill Square.” Phase one of the development will focus on apartment spaces. The development company, along with the City of Huntsville, are placing a high emphasis on preserving the history and making sure it will be respected. (WHNT News 19)
