Space Camp - Governor Ivey Awards Grants

  1. Governor Kay Ivey awarded $214,500 worth of grants to go to four different North Alabama agencies that help with domestic violence and sexual assault. Tiffany Thompson reports that Cramer Children’s Center in Florence received $15,000, Victim Services of Cullman got $51,500, One Place of the Shoals was given $68,000, and Crisis Services Center of North Alabama Inc. got $80,000.   2. Boeing won a $436,690 million Army contract modification for the Apache AH-64E. The U.S. Army Contracting Command at the Arsenal is the contracting activity and the work will be done in Mesa, Arkansas. (SeekingAlpha)
  3. The FBI is now building two new campuses as part of their plan to expand at the Arsenal. According to Nicole Ogrysko, the FBI plans to be able to support training exercises for 2,000 more people at the Arsenal within the next five years. (FederalNewsNetwork)
  4. A senior design class team in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UAH has developed a storage system for a Navy Submersible that will be in the running to actually be used by the U.S. Navy. The students were given parameters by the client and were trying to optimize space for functionality and comfort, according to Jim Steele. (UAH)
  5. Space Camp is back! The program will be limited to the U.S., will be at 50% capacity, and students and staff will be required to mask and stay six feet apart. According to Nicole Zedeck, there is already a waitlist with several hundred students wanting to lift off this summer! (WAAYTV)

  • Huntsville City Schools had issues with Schoology being out of commission, but it is back and ready for tomorrow!
  • Huntsville and Madison animal rescues and shelters are seeing an uptick in abandoned dogs recently, so if you are missing your pup, go look at Huntsville Animal Services, Madison Animals Rescue Foundation, or any of the other rescues in the area. (Details)
  • Coletta Smith of Huntsville won the grand prize sweepstakes at the Bloomin Festival in Cullman, and was awarded a 2021 Jeep Renegade.
