Space Command - Artemis I Mission

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in the Rocket City.

Rise and shine, Huntsville! Get caught up in five minutes or less over breakfast before you head out! In today’s Daily, we will get an update on the Space Command conversation, an upsetting Trash Pandas announcement, and find out about Oktoberfest!

  1. General James Dickinson and Rep. Mo Brooks fought for Space Command to be brought to Huntsville in a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee’s subcommittee on strategic forces, according to reporter Sandra Erwin. Rep. Doug Lamborn from Colorado suggested the move was unnecessarily costly. Brooks argued that Huntsville's high concentration of PhDs make the move worthwhile. (SpaceNews)
  2. Kathy Evans, a correctional officer at the Morgan County Jail, was attacked by an inmate after he requested a smoke break. Reporter Michael Wetzel says that Evans was treated for a concussion and facial contusions before being released from the hospital Monday. (YahooNews)
  3. Boeing began delivery of the Space Launch System (SLS) core stage to Kennedy Space Center. Sean Ross of Yellowhammer News says that Kennedy is getting ready for the launch of the Artemis I mission, which will be the first mission to the moon in almost 50 years and is expected to launch in November. (Yellowhammer)
  4. Ralph Nelson, CEO of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, has resigned “to pursue a new venture.” There are only a few more weeks until the opening game on May 11, but the Trash Pandas have said the General Manager and Vice President will be leading the group. (WAAYTV)
  5. Madison City Schools have announced that they will host graduation ceremonies at Alabama A&M’s Louis Crews Stadium. This will allow students to graduate with their whole class instead of splitting up. Students from James Clemons and Bob Jones will be given eight tickets and families will be asked to socially distance themselves. (WHNT)
