Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- I’ve seen more than a few posts on social media about the railroad crossing on Sullivan Street near Palmer Road. Did you know there’s a Federal Railroad Administration website that gives you a place to report blocked crossings? The goal is to collect data to show where issues are so they can help find solutions. If you’re affected by a blocked crossing for an extended period, make sure to report it here to help give them data on that crossing! You have to find the location on the map, and click the correct crossing location. (Federal Railroad Administration Blocked Crossing Reporter, FRA)
- A rare species of crayfish has been rediscovered in the only cave it resides in by a team led by a UAH assistant professor, Dr. Matthew L. Neimiller. The Shelta Cave Crayfish, only found in Shelta Cave in Huntsville, was thought to be extinct until the team spotted one and was able to take DNA samples to rule out other breeds, since there were no other existing DNA samples of the breed. - A new lawsuit has been filed against Sequel Youth and Family Services in Owens Cross Roads. A 17-year-old has claimed to have experienced physical and verbal abuse at the facility for months, even being taken to the hospital by police with a broken jaw and face and rib bruising. The teen has made several reports with the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program. This is not the only lawsuit against a Sequel facility. (WHNT)
- Two Marshall Space Flight Center engineers, Robbie Holcombe and Belinda Wright, have been recognized with top honors at the annual NASA Cost and Schedule System Symposium. Holcombe was named the Cost and Schedule Analyst of the Year, and Wright was given the NASA Cost and Schedule Leadership Award. The ceremony was held April 28 in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
