Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Two students at Sparkman High School were among 600 students to be named National Cyber Scholars. Over 30,000 students applied and only 5,000 were selected to participate in the first round of the competition. The scholars receive a $2500 scholarship and an invitation to take part in a skill building and certification class. (WZDX)
  2. Cook Museum was recognized as USA Today’s Best New Museum for 2021. The museum is in Downtown Decatur and opened in 2019. (WAAY)
  3. Madison City Schools has announced that they will stop requiring masks on June 1. This will be for both students and employees and will affect summer classes. (WAFF)
  4. In April, Limestone County’s unemployment rate dropped to 2%, which is the lowest the county has seen in five years. At the height of the pandemic last April, their unemployment was at 10.7%. According to these numbers, Limestone has recovered from the pandemic in regards to unemployment. (Yahoo)
  5. Joshua Pearson, Super Bowl champion and wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, held a football camp at Austin High School, his alma mater. He wants to encourage kids to see that they can work hard and get where he is, and he loves giving back to the community that helped build him. (WAAY)
