Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The TVA implemented rolling blackouts yesterday morning, which means many in the area lost power for 30-minute intervals. The blackouts were canceled before lunch. However, many (as of writing) are still without power due to the winter weather. If you’re still experiencing power outages, make sure to report it to your local utility company. According to Huntsville Utilities, if your power is restored, you shouldn’t use any major appliances for at least 15 minutes, or there’s a risk that your power will shut off again due to the sudden drain. (AL.com)
  2. The homeless population in the area is struggling due to the limited spaces in the area to keep warm. With few warming centers and homeless shelters, they have filled up quickly and many are left outside in the freezing temperatures. (WHNT News 19)
