Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) is partnering with Tootris to help combat the issue families have finding and being able to afford childcare while working. Tootris offers on-demand childcare options that will allow MTM employees to find childcare, and MTM will be contributing toward the cost to help employees. (Patch)
- Drake State has teamed up with Huntsville Hospital to get more LPNs in the field. The hospital system will pay tuition, books and fees for students in the LPN program and will have the students work in the Huntsville Hospital System throughout their coursework. Students in the program will then have guaranteed three-year employment in the system. Applications are open now. (WHNT)
- UAH partnered with Operation Green Team for this year’s Big Event. The Big event is an on-campus clean up effort that takes place every year and this year it kicked off the “Great American Clean Up.” (WHNT)
- Researchers at HudsonAlpha are working to isolate genomes that will ensure more effective peanut harvests. They have already discovered a gene set that will allow breeders to select varieties with desirable traits. Alabama is the second state in peanut production, behind Georgia. (Yellowhammer News)
- Dr. Stephanie Reitmeier was named Civilian Employee of the Year by the U.S. Army at the Huntsville Redstone Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual Civilian of the Year awards dinner. Dr. Reitmeier is a UAH alumna and has made a huge impact throughout her career. (Patch)
