Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- Dr. Sukanya Chakrabarti at the University Of Alabama in Huntsville is the lead author on a new paper citing the discovery of a new massive black hole. The monster black hole that Dr. Chakrabarti and her team have discovered is approximately 12 times the mass of our sun, and is the closest black hole to our sun that we have discovered so far. - Yesterday, the Athens Elementary iAcademy was evacuated due to the smell of gas. After the brief evacuation, Athens Utilities gave the school the all-clear and everyone was allowed to reenter the building. (News Courier)
- Starting next week, there will be pipe replacements done on spots of Hobbs Island Rd., Old Big Cove Rd., and Old Gurley Pike. Unlike normal, there won’t be road closures at these locations! These roads are in more rural areas and some don’t have easy detours, so they will use water pipe sleeves instead of cutting the road. (WHNT News 19)
- Friday, Oct. 28 is the first game of the 2022-2023 Huntsville Havoc season, and they’re throwing a block party to celebrate! From 4 p.m.- 6 p.m., you can smash a car, throw an axe, and party with the team throwing preseason smash car bash (WHNT News 19)
