Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has gotten a new drug drop-off box! This box will allow anyone to come in and discard medications, prescription and over the counter, at a safe location that won’t be monitored. This is an effort to help keep medications from getting into drinking water when it is dumped into sinks and toilets. You won’t be allowed to drop needles or syringes into the drop-off box. (News Courier)
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville hosted the annual Wernher von Braun Memorial Symposium International Student Poster Competition (VBS). One UAH student, Thais Arslanbekov, received a first-place award, and another UAH student, Samantha Rawlins, was named a second-place award recipient. (Patch Press Release Desk)
- Patch has started a new initiative to recognize local heroes in our community! I’m going to start by recognizing two well-deserving women in our community. If you know a local hero you want to recognize, you can fill out a form here!
- Fran Fluhler: Fran manages Manna House and works tirelessly to improve the lives of those in need with a servant heart. Thanks to Rhonda Brewster-Meihls for the nomination. (Read the full nomination here.)
- Lisa Morgan: Coach Lisa Morgan is a special education teacher and a coach of multiple extracurricular activities at Jemison High School, while still finding the time to be a part-time officer. Thanks to Smith for the nomination. (Read the full nomination here.)
