Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Huntsville councilwoman Frances Akridge held a town hall meeting Wednesday to speak with constituents concerned with road safety. According to the HPD, following too closely is the number one cause of accidents in Huntsville, followed by misjudged stopping distances. (WAFF)
  2. Applications are now open to be a part of the Space Academy Program through legislative funds! One male and one female will be chosen from each legislative district to attend a week-long special program on a full scholarship. (Patch)
  3. The City of Huntsville has postponed work on the Winchester Road project to widen and repair the road, which was approved in 2017. Half of the road is in the county, which has already been completed, while the Huntsville portion has not been started. (WAFF)
  4. Starting in May, Frontier Airlines will have a new nonstop route! The airline will offer nonstop trips to Denver, Colorado on Mondays and Fridays. (WAAY)
  5. Madison County Superintendent, Allen Perkins, will not be seeking reelection. Chris Shaw and Cameron Whitlow, current principals in the district, and Ken Kubik, a current employee of the school system, will all be running to replace Perkins. In order to vote in this election, you must declare you want a Republican ballot when you go to vote. (WAFF)
