📰 News we're reading

1. Alabama Power attributes outages in the state's southern region to extensive tree damage (al.com) — Fewer than 1,000 Alabama Power customers inside Mobile's city limits were still without electricity Sunday after Hurricane Isaias, with officials expecting full restoration by late Sunday night. The company says 90% of affected customers statewide now have power back and urges Mobile residents to avoid downed lines and report any remaining outages online, via app, or by phone.

2. Mail services resume across Alabama following Hurricane Isaias (al.com) — Mail delivery and retail services have resumed in Mobile and other Alabama communities after Hurricane Isaias, meaning residents should again receive regular postal service starting this week. Aside from a damaged Coffee Springs office temporarily operating from Geneva, the district reports most locations, including Mobile, are back to normal schedules following Monday's holiday closure.

3. America's Fastest Ocean Liner Prepares for Final Voyage From Mobile Bay (obawebsite.com) — A historic ocean liner is set to depart from Mobile Bay in November 2026 on its final voyage to become the world's largest artificial reef off Destin-Fort Walton Beach. After extensive environmental cleanup work in Mobile, residents along the bay and nearby beaches may be able to watch the massive SS United States towed past Fort Morgan and eastward into the Gulf.

4. Nearly 396,000 without power in Florida and Alabama as Isaias moves north to Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic (azfamily.com) — Mobile residents are dealing with numerous downed trees and power lines after Hurricane Isaias swept across Alabama's Gulf Coast, leaving hundreds of thousands without power across the wider region. The storm caused several deaths in Florida and Alabama, damaged buildings and infrastructure along the Panhandle, and continues to threaten inland areas with heavy rain, flash flooding, and dangerous surf conditions.

5. ISAIAS: Precautionary boil water notice still in effect for some area customers (fox10tv.com) — Reported from Mobile, residents who travel to or have family in the Pensacola area should know that Emerald Coast Utilities Authority is keeping a precautionary boil water notice in place after Hurricane Isaias. All ECUA customers are urged to boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice until officials confirm the system is safe.
