🌱 AL Legislature Session + Montgomery Zoo Thanks Veterans

Welcome to the Montgomery Daily, your go-to for the lowdown on all things Montgomery.

Get on up, Montgomery! Let's get you all caught up to start this day off on an informed note. Here's everything you need to know today in town.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and nice. High: 72 Low: 47.

Here are the top stories in Montgomery today:

  1. The Alabama Legislature wrapped up a six-day special session at the Alabama State House in Montgomery. Though Speaker of the House Mac McCutcheon called the event "one of the most successful special sessions in Alabama history," some Democrats and grassroots organizations argued that the process was too rushed, lacked transparency, and disenfranchised Black voters. Notable outcomes of this session included state redistricting and the passing of anti-vaccine mandate bills. (Alabama Political Reporter)
  2. With Veteran's Day fast approaching, the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Museum are showing their appreciation for those who have served. From now through Nov. 13, all veterans, active duty military personnel, and their dependent family members can enjoy a 50% discount on regular daytime admission to the zoo and museum. Participants must provide a valid military identification to receive the discount. (Montgomery Zoo)
  3. As temperatures drop, many people in the River Region are left without a warm place to sleep at night. To help those in need, the Public Relations Council of Alabama Montgomery Chapter (PRCA) is working to support the efforts of Homeless Outreach Mission Endeavor (HOME) by collecting supplies and donations from the community. The groups will collaborate for a service event at River City Church on Nov. 27, as well as online donation options for those looking to pitch in sooner. (WFSA 12 News)
