Here are the top stories today in Montgomery:
- Amazon.com will soon be expanding its presence in Alabama, opening several new facilities throughout the state, including Montgomery. The expansion will create more than 900 new jobs in the region. The new IXD facility will be located between I-65 and Highway 31, north of Hyundai Boulevard, and come sometime in 2022. (WSFA)
- Staff at local-favorite Vintage Year have collected new accolades this year. In the Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Association's annual awards, proprietor Jud Blount won the Restauranter of the Year award, and executive chef Eric Rivera was a finalist in the Chef of the Year category. - Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey motioned to increase bail for murder in the state from $150,000 to $1.5 million. The Criminal Rules Committee of the Alabama Supreme Court approved the motion and it now heads to the Supreme Court for review before it is approved. Currently, if you commit a murder in Alabama, the bail is set at $150,000, a number that lawmakers, including Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed, believe to be too low. (WBRC)
