Here are the top three stories today in Montgomery:

  1. The Alabama Senate in Montgomery approved of a $2.7 billion general fund budget item that would raise state employees' pay by four percent. The senators voted 29-1 on the budget issue and the bill will now head to the full state House of Representatives for a vote. An internet sales tax rise has boosted the state's general fund.   2. The Montgomery Police announce that a child was injured in a shooting on Thursday. According to department officials, the child was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No additional details about the shooting have been released with the boy being unidentified to the public. (WSFA12 News)
  3. Twenty-two babies were born on Feb. 22, 2022, at Baptist Health in Montgomery. Feb. 22 was known as Twosday on social media and the 22 babies were a fitting celebration for staff at the local hospital. Adorable pictures of the healthy newborns have been included with the story. (WSFA12 News)
