Here are the top 3 stories in and around Montgomery today:

  1. Two Alabama probate judges have been named to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission's Local Leadership Council (LLC). James Tatum, Probate Judge of Bullock County, and Andrea LeCroy, Probate Judge of Marshall County, will serve as Alabama's representatives on the LLC. This federal advisory board will focus almost exclusively on the responsibilities of local election officials and includes just two representatives from each state. (Montgomery Patch)
  2. An Alabama man was charged this week with capital murder in the death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter. Tuscaloosa County deputies were called to DCH Regional Medical Center early Friday after the toddler, who had reportedly stopped breathing, was brought by ambulance to the emergency room. Both medical crews and police felt the little girl's condition was suspicious and launched a child abuse investigation. Emergency room personnel were unable to revive the little girl, and her body was taken to the state forensics lab in Montgomery for an autopsy. (WDHN)
  3. Join the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum nightly through Dec. 25 for Christmas Lights Festival at the Montgomery Zoo. See thousands of twinkling and sparkling lights and displays, stroll the illuminated and decorative pathways, enjoy a brisk train ride, or take in the views from overhead on the Zoofari Sky Lift Adventure Ride. (Montgomery Zoo)

From my notebook:

  • Pump prices are dropping in Alabama and across the nation, and experts say they could keep dropping in the months and weeks ahead. (Facebook)
  • Rock band Kansas is coming to the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on Jan. 8; tickets are on sale now. (Facebook)
  • Get in the holiday spirit and sing along to some of your favorite holiday tunes with a free Christmas sing-along event featuring Capitol Sounds Concert Band. (Facebook)
