Here are the top stories today in Montgomery:
- A 71-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-85 in Montgomery. The victim, Adrianna Giles, was a passenger in one of the vehicles. The driver with Giles received minor injuries and the other driver was not injured. (Advance Local)
- The list of top 25 private high schools in Alabama for 2022 contained three schools in Montgomery. Those that made the list were Montgomery Academy (#4), Saint James School (#8), and Trinity Presbyterian School (#14). Rankings are determined by the U.S. Department of Education's data along with test scores, college data, and Niche user reviews. (Advance Local)
- A monument in Montgomery was constructed to honor three enslaved Black women who endured experimental surgery by a 19th-century physician. (WVUA 23)
- A man was arrested and charged for stealing cases of beer during armed robberies at two Montgomery gas stations. (WSFA 12)
- Goodwyn Middle School in Montgomery will close for 14 days due to a rise in positive COVID-19 cases and is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 12. (Alabama News Network)
