🌱 Lobbying For Recreational Cannabis + COVID Infections Decrease

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Montgomery.

Welcome back, Montgomery! Let's get this Friday started. Here's what's going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Clouds giving way to some sun. High: 47 Low: 22.

Here are the top 3 stories in Montgomery today:

  1. The Alabama Cannabis Coalition met with lawmakers in Montgomery to lobby for recreational cannabis use. The new legislation would allow citizens to grow cannabis at home, expunges criminal cannabis-related charges, and would allow for recreational use. The President of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition, Marty Schelper, says it is time to push for recreational use past the medical use Alabama currently allows. (wvtm13.com)
  2. Montgomery Public Schools are experiencing a slight decrease in new COVID-19 infections within their schools. According to new data provided by the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Montgomery Public School district had 129 new cases this last week. The Department of Public Health gathers weekly reports and publishes them on their COVID-19 K-12 Dashboard. (wsfa.com)
  3. The Montgomery District Attorney says the city is "under siege" in response to the recent spike in violent crime. Daryl Bailey's comments came after a weekend of violent crime that saw a Montgomery man shot while preaching. Bailey hopes the Alabama Supreme Court's recent ruling to raise bail amounts will help keep violent criminals behind bars. (DailyMail.com)
