Here are the top three stories today in Montgomery:

  1. Mayor Steven Reed has tested positive for COVID-19 after returning home from a business trip. The mayor reports that he is fully vaccinated and boosted, and his symptoms are mild. Reed will be isolating for the next week while staying engaged in city matters. (WSFA 12 News)
  2. An investigation is underway after a man was shot to death on Alabama River Parkway in Montgomery. First responders found a victim who had suffered a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead on the scene. No information on a possible suspect or motive has been released. (WSFA 12 News)
  3. Recent data from the Alabama Department of Public Health suggests that Omicron may be leveling off in the state's metro areas. Montgomery County saw the most significant drop in cases statewide, now down to only 16 cases per every 1,000 residents. However, infections continue to rise in the more rural areas of Alabama.
