Here are the top stories in Montgomery today:
- The NFL's Shaun Dion Hamilton gave back to his home city this week, providing hundreds of Thanksgiving meals to Montgomery families in need. The Detroit Lions linebacker, who is an alumnus of Carver High School and the University of Alabama, partnered with Martha's Place to give away 600 meals yesterday. The giveaway has become an annual local tradition, and each year, Hamilton continues the tradition and the amount of giving grows with it. (WSFA)
- Entries are now being accepted for the 2021 Montgomery Christmas Parade's float contest.
The parade will take place on Dexter Avenue starting at 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 10. Registration is available online at mgmcityevents.com. (WSFA) - The city of Montgomery is planning a week of events to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. A unity breakfast will be held Dec. 1 at St. Paul AME Church, and the Rosa Parks Museum will offer free admission all day on the anniversary of her arrest. Free tours of the apartment where she lived from 1951 to 1957 will also be available through the Montgomery Housing Authority. (USA Today)
- Montgomery's Riverfront Park will be getting a new place to eat, drink, and listen to music. The old Sand Bar near the Riverwalk Amphitheatre will now be known as the Red Bluff Bar, and it's slated to open this April. (Alabama News Network)
