Here are the top three stories today in Montgomery:

  1. A Friday afternoon police chase through Montgomery ended in the arrest of two suspects, including one who was already wanted by law enforcement. The pursuit, which involved both U.S. Marshals agents and the Montgomery Police Department, began when the two unidentified suspects were found at an apartment complex on Woodley Road. The chase came to an end in the Salinas Court area near Wares Ferry Road, and the suspects were captured about a block away from where they fled their vehicle. (WSFA 12)
  2. A new intermodal shipping facility will soon be making its way to the Montgomery area. The Alabama Port Authority announced the $2 million purchase of over 270 acres of land in Montgomery, which will be used to build an intermodal transfer center that will handle shipping containers going through the post at Mobile. The first phase of the work is expected to take up to two years and $54 million to complete; when finished, the project will generate 2,618 direct and indirect jobs. (U.S. News)
  3. The qualifying period has ended for candidates running for governor of Alabama, and fourteen are officially on the ticket. Incumbent Governor Kay Ivey is running for a second term against eight other Republicans; five Democratic candidates are also in the race. The primary election is scheduled for May 24, with plans for a run-off election as needed on Jun. 21. (WSFA 12)
