Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. Alabama officials in Montgomery have signed a contract to build a new state prison but have been quiet on the details surrounding the $1.3 billion construction project. The state signed a contract with Caddell Construction Co. that went into effect on Apr. 15. The new prison will be a specialized men's facility located in Elmore County. (NBC 15 News)
  2. The Montgomery community has been invited to attend the Community Block Party & Election Fair on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at 1413 Oak Street. The get-out-the-vote event will feature food, entertainment, and prizes for those in attendance. The event is being sponsored by a number of organizations such as Black Voters Matter and ACLU Alabama. (Elmore Autauga News)
  3. The Montgomery Police Department has charged Chastity Williams, 45, with stabbing a Montgomery man to death on Thursday morning. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Texas Court near Fairground Road. Ahmad Mclean, 47, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. (Alabama News Network)
