- Dozens of pets have left the Montgomery Humane Society for their "forever homes" after a special weekend adoption event. To incentivize the public to turn out, adoption fees were dropped to as low as $10. Though many cages have been emptied, some pets are still available; prospective adopters are encouraged to schedule an appointment on their website. (WFSA 12 News)
- A professor at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery has pled guilty to lying to a federal agent. During his tenure at the Air War College, 69-year-old Xiaoming Zhang would travel to China on a regular basis for work, research, and visiting family. Beginning sometime in 2012, Zhang developed a relationship with a known foreign official working with the Shanghai Municipal Government. At some point during that time, Zhang became aware that the official was using their relationship to gain access to sensitive information and make contact with other potentially valuable individuals. However, he failed to report this to the college. (AL.com)
- The mayors of Alabama's 10 largest cities held two days of meetings in the capital to discuss legislative priorities and other issues. Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed hosted the gathering, with the mayors of Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Auburn, Dothan, Decatur, and Madison in attendance. Combined, the cities' total population makes up more than 20 percent of Alabama's population of about 5 million people. (WSFA 12 News)
