Here are the top stories today in Montgomery:
- The Montgomery Public Schools system has partnered with the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Bloom Health to offer voluntary COVID-19 testing to students, teachers, and staff members at 21 elementary schools. The plan is to ultimately expand this testing to include all 52 of the system's schools. They are now administering these tests on a weekly basis, which covers 1,700 people. (WSFA 12)
- The Montgomery Zoo is hosting its 30th Annual Christmas Lights Festival, which will run from Dec. 3 to Christmas Day. Guests can purchase their tickets to this event for $10. They can also see the Christmas tree festival and meet Santa Claus at the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum. (Alabama News Network)
- A Prattville man is facing multiple charges of theft after he burglarized several storage units in Montgomery; the thefts took place between Sept. 26 and Oct. 5 in the 1900 block of McLemore Drive at the Life Storage facility. (WSFA 12)
- The Alabama Farmers Federation is celebrating its 100-year anniversary during a two-day annual meeting, which began on Sunday, and they are expecting 1,200 farmers from each of Alabama's counties to attend. (Alabama Daily News)
- Montgomery rap artist Jacoby X has written a chapter book with illustrations titled, "The Words I Speak I See," geared toward grades 5-12, about a boy who struggles with self-identity, self-love, and acceptance at school; it will be released in January 2022. (U.S. News & World Report)
