Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. A bill meant to restrict the State Health Officer's ability to issue emergency health rules fails on the House floor. State Lawmakers in Montgomery were attempting to require the governor to approve any emergency health order issued by the State's Health Officer but a procedural motion caused the bill to fail. More than 19,000 people died from COVID-19 in Alabama during the pandemic. (Montgomery Advertiser)
  2. Montgomery's Central Alabama Aging Consortium works to provide more services to Alzheimer's patients through a new project. PANDA, which stands for Providing Alzheimer's N Dementia Assistance, seeks to reduce critical incidents by providing support for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers. Those seeking more information about the new project are being asked to call CAAC directly. (WSFA12 News)
  3. The Alabama Department of Transportation is recognizing Work Zone Awareness Week to improve work zone safety. Last year, 2,349 work zone crashes occurred in the state with 17 deaths. State lawmakers in Montgomery doubled the fine associated with traffic violations in work zones during 2021. (WBRC.com)
