Here are the top stories in Montgomery today:
1. The City of Montgomery will officially rename Jeff Davis Avenue to Fred D. Gray Avenue next week. The Montgomery city council unanimously approved the renaming of the street to pay tribute to Attorney Fred D. Gray, one of the heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. The ceremony will take place Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at 900 Oak Street. (WSFA News)
2. In a town hall meeting on Wednesday at Carver High School, Montgomery Public Schools discussed issues such as leaky roofs, wasp infestations, class sizes, and more. Regarding repairs, the school will have project management firm Volkert come before the school board in December with findings for a district-wide renovation. (WSFA News)
3. A Montgomery man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to robberies in September 2019. Eighteen-year-old Jamarcus Hatcher pleaded guilty to robbing two people at gunpoint behind Selma Mall. His case will not go to trial. (Alabamanews.net)
