Former Mtn. Brook Coach To Be Inducted Into AHSAA Hall Of Fame
Phil Lazenby, who was a coach at Mountain Brook from 1981-90, was also an assistant principal in the school system.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - One of Mountain Brook's former coaches, Phil Lazenby, has been tapped for induction into the Alabama High School Athletic Association's Hall of Fame this year. Lenby was a coach in the Mountain Brook system from 1981 to 1990.
Lazenby was an assistant football coach at MBHS, a girl's basketball coach, wrestling coach and strength coach at Mountain Brook, in addition to being the assistant principal at Mountain Brook Junior High School from 1988-1990.
A graduate of Bessemer High School, Lazenby was the Defensive Player of the Year for Samford University's 1973 team, and a member of the Samford team that captured the national championship in 1971.

Lazenby left Mountain Brook to become the head coach at Guntersville High School in 1992, followed by stops at Southside and Benjamin Russell. At Benjamin Russell, his teams reached the state finals in 1997 and 2000.

He then went on to coach at UMS-Wright and Bayside Academy. He was named Alabama Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year in 1997 and 2011.

The class will be honored and enshrined in Montgomery on March 18, 2019.
