• Trussville man charged in fatal Mountain Brook crash (cbs42.com) — A Trussville man has been charged with reckless manslaughter and assault after a July 25 crash on Southwood Road in Mountain Brook that killed two people and injured others. Mountain Brook police say warrants were issued this week after reviewing crash evidence with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, though no additional details have been released yet. 
• Birmingham-metro dominates Alabama's new high school rankings by U.S. News (bhamnow.com) — Mountain Brook High School has been ranked third in Alabama and 215th nationally by U.S. News, a distinction Mayor Graham Smith says reflects strong schools and community support. The Birmingham metro dominated the state's top 10, with nearby Homewood, Vestavia Hills, Spain Park and Oak Mountain also earning high marks.
• 'I just seen the blood': Witnesses recall horrifying night of Irondale double murder (al.com) — Mountain Brook police crime scene investigators were called in days after a double killing in an Irondale home, documenting evidence that defense attorneys now argue was already disturbed. Witnesses described a chaotic night in which two friends were fatally shot, and a judge ruled there is enough evidence for a Jefferson County grand jury to consider charges.
