Longtime MB Schools Central Office Worker To Retire
Mountain Brook Schools has bid farewell to one of its longest-tenured central office employees.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Mountain Brook City Schools will begin the 2020-2021 school year without administrative assistant Carol Hollis for the first time since 1991. Hollis, who was one of the school system's longest-tenured employees, retired June 20 after nearly three decades with the school system.
Hollis worked as a receptionist for her first three years in Mountain Brook before transitioning to the role of administrative assistant for curriculum and instruction in 1995. She remained in that position until 2011, when she became executive assistant to the superintendent.
“This job was an answer to prayer,” Hollis said. “I’m grateful for the relationships that I’ve formed through these 28.5 years. These have not just been my coworkers; they’ve been my family.”

"She’s a rock of a person and the wisest individual in the building,” MBS Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow said. “That type of wisdom next to you can do nothing but make you a better person, and that’s what I’d say about Carol. In my years of being around her, she has made me a much better person.”
Hollis plans to spend more time with her family in retirement. She is married with two sons and five grandchildren who reside in central Alabama, and her mother lives in South Carolina.
