MBHS Junior Drew Lewis Competing In Special Olympics Nationals
Mountain Brook High School junior runner Drew Lewis is representing Alabama in the National Special Olympics this week.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Drew Lewis will be celebrating 4th of July week representing Alabama as a track athlete in the National Special Olympics in Seattle. The Mountain Brook High School junior will be competing in the 100- and 200-meter races as one of 120 athletes to represent Alabama and one of only 14 competing in track and field.
According to a report by Village Living, Special Olympics coach and Mountain Brook Junior High physical education teacher Jane Mosakowski has been working with Lewis since 2015 and said the USA Games only come once every four years. Mountain Brook didn’t originally have a plan in place to get to the national level through Special Olympics, but when Lewis’ mother, Dara Tribble, realized there was an opportunity to compete and attend, they worked together to establish a program.
Lewis has dyspraxia, a developmental coordination disorder, and has been training extensively for the games, competing in local and statewide competitions in order to qualify for the national competition.
