Mountain Brook Athletics Looks To Expand Field Space
Mountain Brook Athletics is proposing a plan to expand its field space, a proposal that will reach the city council next week.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - With the growing participation in community sports, Mountain Brook Athletics looks to expand its current field space. A proposal for the expansion is set to be approved at the next city council meeting on May 14.
According to a report by Village Living, the proposal would include, among other improvements, more maintenance personnel for the football fields. Maintenance would include fertilizing, seeding and mowing the field inside the track throughout the year, which would cost approximately $9,400. The Levite Jewish Community Center also asked for a $5,000 payment for fall and spring programs, each.
MBA football commissioner Brian Lucas said at an April 24 council meeting that he has been in talks with the LJCC regarding use of their their football field on the condition it was also maintained by Mountain Brook.

The use of the LJCC for Mountain Brook Athletics events is not a new concept. For decades, youth baseball was played at fields owned by the LJCC before the current baseball complex was built at Mountain Brook High School in 1989. The baseball fields on the LJCC property were demolished and the property was sold to make room for the office buildings that currently occupy the land.
