MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL β€” Mountain Brook High School senior Bickley Bowron was recently elected President Pro-Tem at Girls Nation, an annual civic training program run by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Bowron and fellow senior Jane Gray Battle were selected by Mountain Brook High School to attend Girls State in Tuscaloosa in June. Each summer, around 20,000 young women participate in week-long Girls State programs across the nation.

Every American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program operates with the same patriotic values through a program where students assume the roles of government leaders, campaigning as β€œFederalists” and β€œNationalists” to become city, county and state officials of their Girls State.
