Mountain Brook's Trendon Watford Named Mr. Basketball

Mountain Brook's Trendon Watford was named Alabama's Mr. Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Mountain Brook basketball standout Trendon Watford can add another trophy to his case, as he was named the 2018 Mr. Basketball for Alabama by the Alabama Sportswriters Association.

Watford is in elite company as Alabama's Mr. Basketball. Former winners include current Alabama Crimson Tide star John Petty, former Kentucky player Marvin Stone and NBA draftees Stanley Robinson, Richard Hendrix, Gerald Wallace, Steven Seay, Terry Coner and Mike Davis.

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound junior averaged 23.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.7 steals per game this season while leading the Spartans to their second straight state championship. Watford was honored in March as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama. He has already received scholarship offers from some of the most elite basketball programs in the NCAA, including Indiana, Georgetown, Kansas, Iowa, Memphis and Wake Forest, in addition to Southeastern Conference school such as Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn and LSU.
