Spartan Trendon Watford Named Gatorade Player Of The Year
Mountain Brook basketball star Trendon Watford was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Alabama.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - The accolades keep puring in for Mountain Brook's junior forward Trendon Watford. After leading his Spartans to their second consecutive state basketball championship, Watford was named the tournament MVP, the Player of the Game in the finals, and now has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Alabama.
The Gatorade State Player of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize the nation’s most outstanding high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Watford maintains a B average in school and volunteers at summer basketball camps as a director.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound junior averaged 23.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.7 steals per game this season, and has been nominated for multiple national player of the year awards. He has already received scholarship offers from some of the most elite basketball programs in the NCAA, including Indiana, Georgetown, Kansas, Iowa, Memphis and Wake Forest, in addition to Southeastern Conference school such as Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn and LSU.
